10.12.12 - New Music - Owl City

Owl City released a new single/song (I’m not sure how much promotion is behind this). I wonder how I’ll feel about it.

The song is easy and follows his recent foray away from synthpop and into pure dance pop. The music is dance, and the lyrics are pop. Not as mystical and magical as some of his earlier work, but certainly not too grown up. The little clinks of glasses in the background take this to a light-hearted place that the heavy synths might not.

The song is right off the soundtrack for the upcoming Disney film Wreck It Ralph, which I have never heard of and will never see. As far as I’m concerned, the best thing coming out of that movie (which appears to be about some pixelated character or something) is that Adam Young made another infectious, fun pop tune. I’d support a facist regime if it meant a never-ending supply of Owl City dance songs.

The Wreck It Ralph soundtrack is out October 30th. Not sure if “When Can I See You Again” will be released as a single or if it is just available off the album, but either way, grab it then.

PS - the soundtrack also has an original song by Skrillex on it. I can't believe Skrillex has a song in a Disney movie. Can we even fathom what that sounds like?
