10.1.12 - New Music - Ellie Goulding

“Explosions” is the second single from Ellie Goulding’s upcoming sophomore album ‘Halycon’, due out October 9th in the US. The song was released this morning, and what a song it is.
“It’s okay to be afraid, but it will never be the same” Goulding soothes over a simplistic beat. The song is heavy – to say the least – but this is nothing new from Goulding. While her smash “Lights” may have made you dance, the beat was covering a song that was much deeper than many realized. Ellie is making some of the most intricate and well thought-out and written pop music out there today. Her debut album ‘Lights’ was upbeat in tune, but a lot of what she has to say is fairly serious.

This is how it’s done guys.

When “Explosions” first starts, it sounds more Florence and the Machine than what the public has come to expect from Goulding, but is this a bad thing? She has shown from the songs already released from ‘Halycon’ (lead single “Anything Could Happen” and buzz singles “I Know You Care”, “High For This” and "Hanging On [ft. Tinie Tempah]") that this album is going to be different. Somber and orchestral, the LP promises to be beautiful, and for fans of stunning music in general, it will be a triumph.
